Desert X- Mirage

Mirror mirror on the wall who’s the fairest one of all? Well when it comes to the 2017 Desert X installations, id say Mirage by Doug Aitken takes the cake! This place was packed when I went. There were even people filming a video! But I am so glad I made the stop. Despite the crowds this was beautiful & worth the trip!

“With every available surface clad in mirror it both absorbs and reflects the landscape around in such ways that the exterior will seemingly disappear just as the interior draws the viewer into a never-ending kaleidoscope of light and reflection. As Mirage pulls the landscape in and reflects it back out, this classic one-story suburban house becomes a framing device, a perceptual echo-chamber endlessly bouncing between the dream of nature as pure uninhabited state and the pursuit of its conquest. ”  – Desert X

Unlike the other Desert X installations, Mirage will remain on view after the exhibition closes through October 31, 2017. Visiting hours though April 30th are Monday- Friday from 3:30pm- sunset. Saturday & Sunday sunrise to sunset.
