Skiing Big Bear Mountain

Growing up I loved to ski! But as I got older, ski trips were few and far between. I have been meaning to make it out to the mountains & I finally did for my friend Rachel’s birthday!

Working full-time I decided it would be best to go up for one night. So I left Seal Beach, CA at 7:00am Saturday. The drive flew by & before I knew it I was winding up the mountain to meet everyone at the cabin we rented on Airbnb. Not long after my arrival we were ready to hit the slopes!

Our Airbnb!

Big Bear has a few different resorts. Bear Mountain & Snow Summit are the two most popular. We went to Bear Mountain & were lucky enough to score a killer parking spot at the resort. Usually you have to take a shuttle from a lower parking lot to the resort (so be prepared if you have your own equipment.

To make it easy, I purchased a lift ticket & rented my ski equipment at the resort. It was about $140.00 for everything combined. This was definitely not the cheapest way to go about it, but it was very easy. If you are trying to save a few bucks, you can rent equipment before you get there & purchase your lift ticket in advance here!

Compared to Friday, the mountain was much more crowded. But since it was my first day on the slopes, I wouldn’t have noticed if my friends did not point it out.

Access Express was our first lift of the day! I was a little nervous since it had been a few years since my last time on ski’s but this was the perfect run. I went down Easy Street the first time & Accelerator for more of a challenge after.

We grabbed some burgers & smoothies with red bull for lunch (weird I know, but it was really good). Then reapplied sunscreen before we went back to the slopes! It ended up being a super hot day. I wish I was more prepared for the heat, but I ditched my jacket & was fine in a tank top the whole time. Until I realized how sunburnt I got!

Bear Mountain Express was the lift we spent the rest of the day on. This one had lots of advanced & intermediate trails, I don’t think I ever took the same way down. There was also a look out point for photos!

The lifts closed at 4:30pm, but we were all worn out & sore by then. One of the girls rented a locker, which made it really easy to put our own shoes on at the end of the day. Then we returned our equipment & headed back to our cabin to Jacuzzi before dinner.

I’m not normally into Jacuzzi’s but it felt so good after a long day using muscles I forgot I had. Just beware of falling pinecones, we had a few almost hit us!

When it was time for dinner we called the Big Bear Shuttle. It was $5.00 cash per person to take us into town, so be sure you bring some with you. El Jacalito Grill had delicious food & even better margaritas!

Ride To Town For $5.00 Cash!

Overall it was a wonderful weekend getaway that re-ignited my love for skiing. If anyone has recommendations on ski’s I think I am in the market for some! I can’t wait to go again!
